Star Wars Day Flash Sale for 10% Off Disney Gift Cards!

There’s a new deal for Star Wars Day (“May the Fourth Be With You”), offering 10% off Disney gift cards in amounts ranging from $25 to $500. This covers discount details, plus the latest updates on a similar sale, and more you need to know about buying and using these gift cards.

That gift card buying guide includes everything from straightforward sales to more complicated ways to stack savings (e.g. cashback portals, credit card bonuses, etc). This post is shorter and sweeter, focusing on the single-day sale at Dollar General on May 4, 2026, plus a quick update on Sam’s Club.

This is a 10% off deal, which is fantastic by Disney gift cards standards. We jump on discounts offering that degree of savings, especially since virtually every Disney gift card deal has limits. You’ll typically be capped at $800 at the absolute most worth of gift cards with any deal, and it’s very easy to spend $800 at Walt Disney World.

Usually, the best sales happen between mid-November and mid-December and then again during Christmas in July sales (or Memorial/Labor Day). We’re now past the first sweet spot, and have a while to go before the second. The great news is that the new Disney gift card deal at Dollar General meets both thresholds! Here are full deal details…

As part of Dollar General’s “Seven Days of Savings” from now through May 9, 2026, the retailer is offering a number of different daily deals. Most are not relevant to us, such as the BOGO deal on salsa tomorrow.

However, there is one flash sale that caught our attention: 10% off all Disney gift cards (excluding Disney+ gift cards) in amounts ranging from $25 to $500. This deal is in-store only; here’s a Dollar General store locator to see if you have any brick-and-mortar locations near you.

This Disney gift card deal is also valid today only, as part of “May the Fourth Be With You.” (No other Star Wars sales or references in the deal flier, interestingly.)

We do not have a Dollar General close enough to us to drop everything and advantage of this discount, but here are some notes I’ll add based on reports we’ve read:

• There’s currently a targeted American Express offer for 5% or 10% back as a one-time statement credit after using your enrolled eligible AmEx Card to make a single purchase in-store at Dollar General or online at dollargeneral.com by May 18, 2026. Limit of 1 statement credit, up to a total of $5, which is a pretty low cap (h/t Doctor of Credit).
• Many Dollar General stores do not accept credit cards for gift card purchases, or have limits (e.g. anything over $100 is cash-only).
• Other Dollar Generals have limits on the number of gift cards that can be purchased per transaction, hour, or day.
• At a corporate level, there is no ‘fine print’ limit on the number of Disney gift cards that can be purchased via this discount.
• Multiple reports indicate shoppers have been able to purchase $2,000 or more worth of Disney gift cards, all for 10% off.
• Others were told X number per day or hour.
• Dollar General stores appear to have an in-store activation limit of $2,500 per hour for all prepaid products, which applies at a store-wide level and not on a per-customer or transaction basis. This means someone buying before you in the same hour could create an artificial limit for you.
• If you visit a “good” Dollar General, the practical ceiling on this deal will be your credit limit, cash on hand, or (most likely) how many Disney gift cards the Dollar General near you has available.

Because this is an ‘unlimited’ deal, we’d recommend heading out to Dollar General ASAP, if at all. Consider calling first, and potentially contact multiple stores if you’ve got different choices within driving distance, since clearly policies are YMMV.

All it takes is one Walt Disney World fan reading this before you and wiping out the entire gift card inventory of your local store. Given that an average trip costs several thousands of dollars, it’s completely plausible that one customer would purchase $4,000 worth of Disney gift cards at Dollar General.

This follows the hugely popular Sam’s Club 10% off deal on $500 Disney eGift Cards over the weekend that sold out fast online.

Technically, this was an Online Weekend Doorbuster sale that was only available through May 3, 2026. Meaning that it has officially ended. However, everything about this deal defied the printed terms.

The monthly flier placed it on the page with all of the “Plus” early access deals, but then a wall of fine print on page 47 excluded it. Despite that, it was available during the Plus pre-sale. In fact, online at least, it was only available during that–it sold out completely before opening to regular members.

It was supposed to be online only, but we received roughly a dozen reports from readers that it was also available in store. (In fact, we received zero reports that it was not available in store.) This is precisely why we’re bringing it to your attention despite the “doorbuster” being dead. Maybe it’s still available in store, as part of the ongoing Sam’s Club sale. Definitely NOT worth a dedicated trip for no other reason, but potentially worth a call to check!

In looking through the Disney gift card sales that we’ve covered thus far this year, this Dollar General deal and the Sam’s Club one before it have been the best of the bunch, offering both 10% off and a high dollar amounts.

There have been a couple of previous 10% off sales, but they’ve had significantly lower limits. Most of the sales have been decent, with 6-8% off and lower limits unless you stacked with credit card bonuses. With the precedent set, we’re hoping Costco and other retailers ‘match’ this discount long before the Christmas in July sales start.

While we subscribe to the “it all adds up” mantra, this is the first deal that will, by itself, make a meaningful contribution towards paying for a Walt Disney World, Disneyland, or DCL vacation. It’s the first $100 off or higher sale of 2026! (It’s possible there have been equivalent deals at regional stores, but I haven’t seen any.)

Disney Gift Cards are redeemable at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, Disney Store US locations, DisneyStore.com, and beyond.

You can use Disney Gift Cards for almost anything parks-related, including but not limited to theme park tickets, hotel stays, merchandise, restaurants, Lightning Lanes, and even at some participating third party locations (e.g. stores and restaurants at Disney Springs and Downtown Disney).

You can use the gift cards online at Disneyworld.com or Disneyland.com when booking trips, as well as in the respective apps when placing Mobile Orders, etc. Basically, you can use these gift cards for almost anything at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and beyond. There are some odd and random exceptions to this, but they’re almost as good as a regular credit card or currency.

Every Disney gift card deal comes with limits and we always find ourselves taking advantage of sales throughout the year to max out our discounts. We spend more time and money at the parks than the average guest, but even if you’re doing only an annual trip, you’ll likely want to do the same. And from that perspective, 10% off is a hot deal, especially when it amounts to a total savings of $100.

Speaking of it all adding up, we also highly recommend combining Disney gift cards so you don’t have a wallet or purse filled with a dozen different ones, and you have to make multiple scans at each cash register to figure out which ones still have a balance. Disney gift cards can be combined via Disney’s online management tool under “My Cards.”

You can also use that to check balances. That might save yourself some embarrassment so you’re not trying to pay for something with multiple gift cards with balances under $1, while a line forms behind you. Not that I speak from experience or anything.
