I realize this is a belated reply, but yes! Ironically enough, since this comment we’ve had flight attendants on two different domestic flights give us a hard time. One flat-out told us not to use it, the other said we weren’t supposed to, but she’d turn a blind eye (or something to that effect).

Both Southwest. Never had any issue on other airlines, domestic or international, in dozens of past flights. Regardless, I’ve added an asterisk to the recommendation in the post.

PSA: If you have an iPhone, there’s a “background sounds” option under Settings/Accessibility/Audio & Visual. That’s better than dead silence.
