I considered renting DVC from another member, but with little availability in May I booked 4 nights at The Contemporary with the 40% AP discount for an add on to our BWV stay. The Garden Water View has a sleep sofa and I requested 1st floor to get a patio. We will have a view of the Electrical Water Pageant. It was just under $1900 for 4 nights. I like to have options and this worked out well for a ‘last minute” (100 days or so prior) add on. Bonus is the ability to cancel for a refund.

Jan,

As a fellow DVC owner, I also paid a lot of money for my points.

I book reservations 11 months in advance and get the rooms I want.

How does it affect you if I book the room and use it, I book the room and let my adult kids use it, or I book the room and rent it? Please explain.

Sounds like maybe you make up early and book the room you want 11 months in advance.
More than likely, the reason you can’t get a room is not renters, but rather walkers……. Those people who start booking a month before that actually want to stay, and each week cancel a week and add the next week.
Those are the people you should be angry with…..

But even those OWNERS walking points are still playing by the rules Disney set, and we all agreed to when we bought our points.

If renters weren’t renting them then the owners would be using the points themselves, right? Either way the points will get used as no owner buys points to have no one use them.

You can and it’s not fair. As a DVC owner I can’t get reservations because people are renting them. When Disney sold the properties I don’t think they realized that all the capacity would be gone because of renters. I certainly didn’t.

As a DVC owner, we pay a lot of money for our points and then we can’t get any available rooms when we want them. It’s not fair that people are renting them when owners can’t get reservations. I am such an avid follower of your newsletter and I really wish you wouldn’t be telling people how to do this.
